The Blossom Story
In early 1994, Blossom Publishing produced traditional direct mail and other types of advertising from a small facility in central Minnesota. On the advice of one client (Enstrom Photo Studios, Grand Rapids, MN) Blossom Publishing began to contact Midwest portrait photographers and discovered a common need: portrait photographers needed high-end process color printing – often with UV or aqueous coatings – but they typically needed smaller quantity jobs (under 5000... often under 1000 pieces).
Blossom Publishing founder, John Iacovino, realized the company that could bring these high-end print services to photographers at breakthrough "commodity" prices would build a loyal following. Almost 2000 photographers later, that is exactly what happened. Photographers quickly responded to the combination of affordable design and print offerings Blossom promoted – spreading the Blossom story by word-of-mouth through industry organizations and personal networks.
Today Blossom Publishing is deeply involved with thousands of photographers' marketing efforts – as well as supporting dozens of industry groups with marketing materials and expertise. Many of the industry's leading photographers now proudly share the Blossom story at trade shows and industry meetings large and small. Additional product and service offerings (web design, mail house services, list management, etc.) are now available through Blossom.
But the founding business model is still central to the firm's mission:
